Foundation receives record donation

The Lansing Community College Foundation received its largest donation from a living donor on Thursday, Dec. 9.

Thomas and Patricia Zuhl gifted $250,000 to LCC to support internationalization.

"At a very young age, Thomas Zuhl was exposed to international students and faculty from various international locations," Executive Director Cathy Zell said. "It is because of his parents' upbringing that he has a lifelong love of studying abroad and working with people from all over the world."

According to LCC Director of Public Relations Marilyn Twine, the donation will support two funds:

  1. The endowment will support scholarships for study abroad, or international students at LCC, or students studying international programs in any way.
  2. The non-endowed (expendable) portion will be used to further internationalization from supporting students mentioned above to helping faculty globalize their curriculum to attracting international students.

"Mr. Zuhl is an LCC alumni who benefitted from international studies and travel as a student and wanted to provide this opportunity to other LCC students," Twine said.

According to Zell, Zuhl's father worked at LCC.

"In establishing the William A. and Verna L. Endowment, Thomas and Patricia honor a Zuhl family legacy of interest in international studies," Zell said.
