Food review: Zaytoon Mediterranean

Zaytoon Mediterranean at 940 Elmwood Road in Delta Township is worth the 10-minute commute from LCC. This Middle Eastern restaurant is an authentic, healthy and fresh find in the Lansing area.

Zaytoon grill has a mid-range prices, with dishes ranging from $11 to $30. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. every day except Sunday. Zaytoon is known for being a family-owned business that has delicious Mediterranean food.

As I walked in, I ordered the traditional combo at the counter instead of the conventional sit-down service. However, when I sat down, I was met with great service with a smile.

The environment is very homey and warm. Being from the Middle East, I was excited to try out a different take on dishes I grew up eating.

I decided to order the traditional combo, since it was my first time and I wanted to try a little bit of everything. The combo features hummus, baba ghanoush, tabouli, falafel, vegetable grape leaf, mujadara and borgul.

My favorite part of the dish was definitely the baba ghanoush, since it was light and tasty. I visited with my sister, and she decided to try the chicken shawarma combo with rice and hummus.

We took home more of the baba ghanoush to go with some Greek fries. Overall, the meal was delicious, the meat was fresh, and the vegetables were hearty.

I definitely see myself coming back to Zaytoon Mediterranean with more friends and family. The restaurant has amazing service and menu options.
