Link to Videos

Films on Demand and Kanopy provide access to streaming educational videos. Below are instructions for creating links fo individual vidoes, multiple videos, or playlists in Desire2Learn.

Step 1: Get the Link

Individual Video | Multiple Videos | Playlists

Individual Videos

  1. Go to Films on Demand or Kanopy.
  2. Locate a video.
  3. Click on the title of the video.
  4. Click on Record URL above the video summary.
  5. Click on the link "Highlight" to copy the video URL.

Multiple Videos

Films on Demand
  1. Go to Films on Demand.
  2. Browse the videos by clicking on MENU at the top left side of the page. In the drop down list select "Subject Index" to see video topics. You can use the "Narrow Results" options on the left side for subtopics.
  3. Click on Page Link underneath the title of the collection at the top of the page. Then click on "Highlight" to copy the URL.  For example, you could link to the Environmental Science Video Collection.  Unfortunately, you cannot create URLS for subtopics in a collection.
  1. Go to Kanopy.
  2. Browse the videos by clicking on the "Subjects" dropdown menu at the top left side of the page. You can use the  dropdown menu to narrow your results by subtopics and genres.
  3. After you select a subject, click on URL in the browser to highlight and copy the URL for a particular subject or genre. For example, you could link to the Business Skills Collection.


You can create custom playlists by putting together individual videos. Before you can set up a playlist, you must create an account so you can save your playlist.

Step 2: Add the Link to Desire2Learn

  1. Log into Desire2Learn.
  2. Click on Content.
  3. Select the Module you want the object to appear in or create a new Module.
  4. Click on New and Create a Link.
  5. Type the video title in the title box.
  6. Delete https:// from the URL box and paste the video URL.
  7. Check box to Open as External Resource.
  8. Select Create.

Trouble Viewing Videos in D2L

If students complain they cannot view videos in D2L, the content may be blocked by their web browser.
