Writing Assistants work with students at all levels of proficiency and at any stage in the writing process. They have been carefully selected and prepared through an intensive training program. Writing assistance is available to all LCC students working on writing projects-not just students in writing classes. We offer one-on-one and small group writing assistance for students.

Walk-ins are welcome and are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are STRONGLY recommended and can be made by calling us or stopping in during open hours. See our Hours and Appointments page for more information. On-line writing assistance is also available.

Tours/Information Sessions

Faculty are welcome to bring their classes into the Writing Center for a tour during the first three weeks of the fall and spring semesters. Please call or stop in to set up a time.  We ask that you first show your students the brief video on our homepage introducing them to Writing Center services.

Peer Response Video

A video workshop developed by Writing Center staff and designed to teach students to work effectively in peer response writing groups is available on the Resources page of our website.

Print Resources for Students

The Writing Center houses a substantial collection of print resources including dictionaries, thesauri, writing handbooks, MLA and APA manuals, reading anthologies, textbooks currently used in many of our Writing and English classes and a variety of handouts. Students do not need an appointment to use these materials. They may simply stop in during open hours, as space allows. Our Lead Writing Assistants, who maintain the front office counter, are happy to assist them in locating the resources they need to use.

"I liked the Writing Center because I learned a lot from those who work there.Visiting The Writing Center was almost like an additional class for me."

Abraham Alier, Elementary Education Major

"Proof of Visit"

The Writing Center is no longer offering "stickers" to students as proof of their visits to us.  Instead, we encourage faculty who need evidence of Writing Center visits to ask students for the date and time of their visit, the first name of the Writing Assistant and a brief description of the assistance they received.  Alternately, a student reflection form is available on our Writing Center Resources page, under Resources for Faculty.
