FAQ
1. Is this an online program?
*Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please see visit lcc.edu/coronavirus for additional information
No, all new students to the HSDCI program take classes on the LCC main campus taught by LCC instructors. Regular attendance is expected. The rule of thumb, is a student should not be absent more than four times in a 16-week semester for a class.
2. What is the schedule?
Classes are Monday through Friday and usually run from 9AM until 3PM. The HSDCI program operates all year through the spring (Jan-May), summer (June-Aug) and fall (Aug-Dec) semesters. Our students follow the LCC academic calendars. HSDCI accepts new students in fall and spring semesters only.
3. Is there a cost to participate?
No. There is not a cost to students or families for participation with HSDCI. Tuition, books and materials are provided. Food cost supplements are earned by students through participation in program activities and campus parking or public transportation (CATA) passes are available to students each semester they are enrolled.
4. How many high school credits do I need to participate?
A HSDCI applicant needs at least half of the number of the high school credits required to graduate from their host high school in order to be eligible to apply. Total credits and type of credit required for graduation is determined by the local school board of the host high school as well as by the state.
5. What if I do not meet the age eligibility requirement?
Students between 16-19 years old that meet our requirements are eligible for participation with HSDCI. However, if you have an active IEP for special education services, it may be possible to still join the HSDCI program. If you do not have an active IEP, you can contact the Center for Transitional Learning at LCC for information on their GED program.
6. How long will it take me to graduate?
How long a student is enrolled in HSDCI depends on a few things. Typically, students are with us for 2-3 LCC semesters. However, how many and what types of credits a student has earned prior to coming to us matters. Additionally, performance on Accuplacer placement testing can impact the number of and order of classes a student will be enrolled in. Finally, how a student does in the classes they are enrolled in with us impacts the path to graduation. All students and parents/guardians will receive a copy of their Educational Development Plan (EDP) which lays out the details for courses required each semester. The host high school and the counselor at the high school prepare and review a Collaborative Credit Report (CCR) with the HSDCI Case Manager to ensure all requirements are met for graduation. Graduation Celebrations are hosted at LCC for HSDCI students that successfully complete requirements in fall and spring semesters.
