The June 4th Grand River Radio Concert
- Ruth & Max Bloomquist
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008
7pm
Location:
Creole Gallery
1218 Turner Street
Lansing's Old Town
Ruth and Max Bloomquist have been making
music together since they first met and discovered their common love for
practically any music that features acoustic instruments and lyrics that
touch the heart. Bluegrass, traditional country, country and folk rock– Ruth
and Max were excited by it all.
Ruth was playing solo gigs at the time,
singing her favorite tunes and a few originals, accompanying her self on
guitar, and had already played an extended tour with a former duet partner.
Max loved to play guitar and sing, too, and soon was showing up at Ruth's
gigs, first as a spectator and, not much later, begging to play along. Soon
the couple met another talented guitarist and singer, Steve Reeths, and the
band Amaryllis was born. The trio was soon playing festivals and clubs
across Western Michigan. Reeths took up 5-string banjo and mandolin with
tremendous success, and Max took up the bass and never looked back.
Amaryllis toured regularly, and the three still remain friends. Ruth and Max
married, solidifying their partnership forever.
Now music takes Ruth and Max wherever it
will. Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana,
Tennessee have recently been host to their talents, and they plan to
continue their journey together sharing music with as many audiences as
possible.

Here's
Some of Our Previous Fun Events |
The
Cardboard Classic
Last
year it was a blast!!!! This year was even bigger and
better…
WLNZ
and The Gier Community Center teamed up again on January 26th,
2008 for some downhill sledding fun at the 2nd
annual Cardboard Classic!
Creativity
was the name of the game for this year's event not to mention
some functionality, too… We had nearly 20 contestants enter sleds
constructed out of a variety of simple materials
including cardboard boxes and paper, stickers, paint, glue and
duct tape.
Special Thanks to NCG
Theaters and Healthy Living Chiropractic for providing prizes for this
event.
Here's just a
quick look at some of the fun!
Feel
free to check out some of this year's pictures and be sure to check out the
great video from 2007. Hope to see you next year. Check back for more details
as we get closer to the event date for 2009.

Thank you to all who
participated in this very special premiere fund raiser event for WLNZ.
It was a wonderfully successful radio play (not to mention loads of fun) at
DART Auditorium on the downtown LCC Campus. Hope to see everyone next year
when we do it again and with another feature. Our 2007 radio play
performance will be "Miracle on 34th Street". This performance marks the
first radio broadcast of "Miracle on 34th Street" in 50 years. Hope to see
you there!!!
