MAINSTREAM JAZZ
It?s been called America's classical music, and for good reason. After the development of the blues (the forefather of jazz), street and
ragtime jazz was considered dance music, performed by swinging big bands. Then the dance elements faded and improvisation took over and became the key component of the music. As the genre evolved, the music split into many different styles.
Here at Lansing Public Radio, WLNZ showcases the many different styles of jazz with
a variety of shows that satisfy even the most discriminating tastes. We cover the music style from the classics to the contemporary with an extra special focus on Mainstream Jazz. Here?s just a sample of some of the programs we feature:
- If you?re looking for music from Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington plus the contemporary jazz artists like Joshua Redman, Ron Carter and
Dianne Reeves. Tune in for Jazz Works , Monday through Wednesday from
1pm to 8pm and Monday through Friday mornings from 6-9.
