They come and they go. We just hope they keep on
a-comin'...
WLNZ has operated for years with student staff and
volunteers. They are so very important to the existence of WLNZ and
many have aspirations of becoming the broadcasters of tomorrow. Many
have already made their mark in broadcasting as well as other fields
of business and have applied the training they received while
working with us to advance themselves into new and exciting careers.
Some more visible former LCC students and WLNZ radio station staff
include: local TV anchor, Jane Aldrich (WLNS); local morning show
team, Danny Stewart and Monica Harris (WFMK); local afternoon drive
disc jockey(Q106), Mojo; morning show host, Big Howard at Power 96 (WQHH);
local on air personality, Tim Howe (WITL, WFMK and WJIM); Dave Lowry
at WFMK; Carl Eier at WNWN (Kalamazoo, MI); Ft Wayne, IN
morning show host, Ron Parkinson (The Rocker); creative director for
Clear Channel Broadcasting, Mark Erickson. He also performs
duties as on personality, known as Ranger Bob for many radio
stations throughout the mid-west. And that's just to name a few.
At WLNZ we are pleased with and proud of the shows our
current student staff produce on both the FM radio station (89.7FM)
and the internet station (wlnz2.org). Take a look at the list
below for information about our student staff. We have also included
details about the current shows they program on WLNZ. Check back
often for updates.
Our student staff:
Jamie Bolt
Jamie is currently an Audio
Production student at
Lansing Community College. She’s tried
other majors but her heart belongs to music. Since she doesn’t play
an instrument she thought the
audio production program was the best way to have a career in the
field. She began by volunteering at WLNZ and soon found what
she really wanted to do with her life. RADIO! She was offered a job and
of course she said…"yes!"
As a professional
listener (as she regards herself), she listens to everything from
Earth, Wind, and Fire to The White Stripes. Some of her all time
favorites are STYX, Otis Redding, Beastie Boys, and Bob Marley. “I
really love to listen to my vinyl collection, and go to record
stores and dig through the bins and find more records. There is
something about vinyl that you just can’t hear on CD’s” says Jamie.
Jamie hopes to gain
valuable experience and vast knowledge from all the seasoned
veterans working at WLNZ. Her belief is that her experience at WLNZ
will be the stepping stone to a long and prosperous career in radio.
Here's what Jamie thinks about her career choice and music: “I'm
an easy going kind of gal and I just want to learn some stuff and
have fun doing it! I will leave you all with a great line from the
legendary Bob Marley that speaks volumes to me. Bob says, 'One good
thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.' I believe that, I
really do."
Rebecca Spearow
Rebecca Spearow is the cheerful new voice you hear at the front desk
these days and is glad to be one of the newest additions to the WLNZ
crew.
Originally from Garden Grove,
California, (a true Disneyland brat) Rebecca has been a Lansing area
implant since her sophomore year of high school. According to her
mother, she has been singing since infancy. According to her dreams,
she is going to be the voice of a Disney villain when she grows up.
Presently, she is in the midst of an associates degree in Motion
Picture Direction at LCC. Yes, that’s right! She wants to make
movies for a living. Rebecca will make her way back home,
eventually, but for now, she is enjoying the Michigan seasons and
thunderstorms.
A happy addition to the front desk
since mid-May, Rebecca has already had the pleasure of becoming a
bona fide broadcaster. She reports the news and weather on the
Coffee Break, does an on-air shift each week and has done some
voice-over work for WLNZ.
As for the future, Rebecca has a
blueprint already in place. “I plan to move back to the Los Angeles
area after I complete my associates degree. There, I will most
likely enroll in a film school, while doing voice-over work on the
side. Wish me luck...and stop by to get my autograph sometime.
You’re going to wish you had it in the next five to ten years.", she
quips with a smile.
" Oh yeah! Did I mention that this is
the greatest job I’ve ever had? Well, it is. So super glue that dial
to 89.7FM because WLNZ kicks some serious derrière. Yeah, I said
it!” That she did!
Rebecca can be heard on the Coffee
Break a few times a week and on the air at WLNZ on Wednesday
mornings from 2am-8am and again Wednesday nights from 7-9pm.
