Phil Nusbaum is one of those radio
professionals thoroughly immersed in bluegrass music and culture.
His ability to present bluegrass in multiple perspectives comes from
his diverse bluegrass-related experiences.
He has been a contributing producer of ten pieces
to NPR program vehicles and has provided NPR training in music recording. Phil
has a long history of experience presenting bluegrass on public radio stations.
His performance credits include playing the banjo for Urban Renewal Bluegrass
and receiving an award from the Minnesota Music Academy. Phil has also produced
a CD titled, “Traditional and Original”. In addition he plays the banjo
and sings with the Blue Drifters Bluegrass Band.
Phil's research credits include holing a PH.D. in
Folklore from Indiana University. He has also authored several articles about
bluegrass music. Phil regularly teaches and lectures about bluegrass music
to audiences of all ages, as well as to aspiring players and radio producers at
McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota

The Bluegrass Review includes bluegrass
classics as well as the current wave of music available. Commentary links the
songs together by reflecting on artists’ styles, song lyrics, or bluegrass music
history, as appropriate to the selections. The Bluegrass Review is a music show
that includes produced segments and in-depth interviews that adds insiders’
knowledge about Bluegrass music
