NOTES:
1. See the NMU Liberal Studies Requirements guide for appropriate LCC courses.
The MACRAO Transfer Agreement may also be referred to in selection of
general education courses. Select EITHER the NMU Liberal Studies Requirements
-OR- the MACRAO Transfer Agreement. General education courses will be
applicable to the major or minor. A maximum of 64 semester credits and
one additional physical education activity credit may transfer from a
community college.
2. NMU's BS in Social Studies Education prepares students to teach Social
Studies in secondary schools. In addition to a teaching major, students must
also select one teaching minor.
3. Admission requirements include: a cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher; a
satisfactory score on the Pre-Professional Screening Test (PPST); a passing
score on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills
test; and successful completion of the NMU pre-methods education sequence
courses. Due to required Education courses, students are encouraged to
transfer to NMU after three (3) semesters at LCC.
4. A maximum of 64 semester credits, plus an additional 4 semester credits in
physical education activity/health promotion courses, may transfer to NMU.
5. Students can fulfill NMU's World Cultures requirement by completing one of
the following while at LCC: ANTH 270; ENGL 211,212; GEOG 200; HIST 214,240;
HUMS 221: or RELG 211,250.
6. At least one course in the Liberal Studies (General Education) program must
be at the 300-level or above. This requirement can be completed at LCC by
completing one of the following courses: ENGL 211,212,255,256; RELG 241,242;
SOCL 185.
7. Select elective courses applicable to this major with the assistance of an
NMU transfer admissions counselor (see below) to ensure credits apply toward
minor.
8. Students seeking an LCC associate degree must fulfill specific graduation
requirements including the LCC general education core requirements. See the
LCC catalog at http://www.lcc.edu/catalog for additional details.
9. This transfer guide requires basic skill levels in mathematics, reading, and
writing. To determine accurate course placement, students should take the
Computerized Placement Tests in the LCC Assessment Center (GB 200) prior to
