NOTES:
1. The Physical Therapist Assistant Program at KCC is a two-year, five-semester
program including general education and professional PTA courses, some offered
in the fully-equipped, on-campus laboratory and others in area clinics for
"field" experience. Many students take their general education classes before
officially entering the PTA program. This is recommended for those who must
work while in college.
2. Admission to the PTA program is competitive and done on a point system. Only
the top applications are accepted to this limited seating program. The PTA
program starts in September of each year and student need to apply by April 1.
3. Although PTA programs have generally NOT been developed for transfer into
graduate level physical therapy programs, some KCC PTA graduates have found
their associate degree training helpful as they complete doctorate degrees at
other institutions. Some of the liberal arts and sciences courses may be
accepted as meeting requirements for the other degrees.
4. The courses listed are not prerequisites. Not all are required for admission
to the program. Some may be completed while enrolled in the program.
5. KCC's Physical Therapist Assistant program is accredited by the Commission on
Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy
Association and the U.S. Department of Education. Graduates are eligible and
qualified to take the National PT Assistant licensure examination.
6. It is recommended that prospective students visit some physical therapy
departments to observe what physical therapists and physical therapist
assistants do and to talk with them about their careers.
7. Contact the Kellogg Community College Admissions Office and request general
college information, an application, and the "Physical Therapist Assistant
Program Handbook of Information for Prospective Applicants."(Kellogg Community
College, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017-9917.) Read through the
handbook and follow directions for making application to the program.
8. Students seeking an LCC associate degree must fulfill specific graduation
requirements including the LCC general education core requirements. See the
LCC catalog at http://www.lcc.edu/catalog for additional details.
9. This transfer guide requires basic skill levels in mathematics, reading, and
writing. To determine accurate course placement, students should take the
Computerized Placement Tests in the LCC Assessment Center (GB 200) prior to
registration. For testing hours call (517) 267-5500.
