NOTES:
1. See the NMU Liberal Studies Requirements guide for appropriate LCC courses.
The MACRAO Transfer Agreement may also be referred to in selection of
general education courses. Select EITHER the NMU Liberal Studies Requirements
-OR- the MACRAO Transfer Agreement. General education courses will be
applicable to the major or minor. A maximum of 64 semester credits and
one additional physical education activity credit may transfer from a
community college.
2. Due to required Education courses, students are encouraged to transfer to
NMU after three semesters at LCC.
3. All candidates for NMU graduation must complete a World Cultures course and
an upper-level (300-400) course. Students can fulfill the world cultures
requirement by completing one of the following while at LCC: ANTH 270,
GEOG 200, HIST 214,240, HUMS 221, or RELG 211,250. The following courses
will meet the 300-level or above requirement: ENGL 211,212,255,256; POLS 271;
RELG 241,242; SOCL 185.
4. This bachelor's degree program qualifies graduates for an Elementary or
Secondary Provisional Certificate and an endorsement to teach children in
Kindergarten through grade twelve in the specialty area as well as regular
classrooms in grades K-5 (elementary) or 6-12 (secondary). Students will
select a specially area in Cognitively Impaired or Emotionally Impaired.
5. For students seeking the Special Education/Elementary Base Certificate:
Although not required, student may select a teaching minor.
6. For students seeking the Special Education/Secondary Base Certificate:
Students must select a teaching minor (Biology, Chemistry, German, Earth
Science, Economics, English, French, Geography, Health Education, History,
Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, or Spanish Education).
7. Admissions requirements into the Secondary Education program include:
a. A cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher.
b. A satisfactory score on the Pre-Professional Screening Test (PPST). The
PPST is waived for student who have ACT sub-scores of 21 in English and
Reading, and sub-score of 20 in Mathematics.
c. A passing score of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)
Basic Skills test.
d. Successfully complete the NMU pre-methods education sequence.
8. Students can fulfill the health promotion requirement by completing PFFT 100
and a physical education activity course at LCC.
9. Elementary level majors select ENGL 208. Secondary level majors do not have
an LCC course option at this time.
10. Students seeking an LCC associate degree must fulfill specific graduation
requirements including the LCC general education core requirements. See the
LCC catalog at http://www.lcc.edu/catalog for additional details.
11. This transfer guide requires basic skill levels in mathematics, reading, and
writing. To determine accurate course placement, students should take the
Computerized Placement Tests in the LCC Assessment Center (GB 200) prior to
