NOTES:
1. The courses listed above fulfill part of the Occupational Therapy Assistant
(OTA) Program requirements at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). Ideally,
students would attend both LCC and GRCC at the same time for two years as
full-time students. Part-time students could take more than two years to
complete the requirements. Typically GRCC OTA courses are scheduled to meet
two days a week. Lansing area students may be able to complete field work
at Lansing area treatment facilities.
2. GRCC's Occupational Therapy Assistant Program has been helping to meet the
health care needs of west Michigan for over 25 years. Occupational Therapy
is part of the health care and rehabilitation profession. Occupation Therapy
Assistants work under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.
They work with people of all ages who, because of physical, developmental,
social, or emotional deficits need specialized assistance to lead indepen-
dent, productive, and satisfying lives.
3. The OTA program is accredited by the American Council of Occupational Therapy
Education of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
4. In order to be eligible for admission into the OTA program, applicants must:
a. Be high school graduates or have passed the high school equivalency test,
General Educational Development (GED) test.
b. Have a high school GPA of at least 2.0.
c. Have completed a one year course in high school biology with a grade of
at least "C" (suitable equivalent courses are available to GRCC and LCC
for college credit).
e. Score at least 40 on the algebra portion or 76 on the arithmetic portion
of the health math test.
f. Score at least 70 on the health reading test.
g. Have completed one semester course of high school computers focusing on
computer literacy, internet skills, retrieval and management of informa-
tion with a grade of at least a "C".
h. Complete and pass fingerprinting for criminal background check through the
Grand Rapids community security and release the findings to the GRCC OTA
Department.
5. Some of the courses in this program may also be available through a flexible

learning, and through the Michigan Community College Virtual Learning

6. First aid certification must be completed prior to fieldwork placement.
7. The physical education course is required of all GRCC students earning a
degree. The course should be selected from LCC's PFAQ, or PFFT courses.
8. Students are urged to contact the GRCC OTA department as soon as possible
for academic advising (see below).
