NOTES:
1. See the MACRAO Transfer Agreement guide for appropriate LCC courses.
Required psychology and sociology courses satisfy the MACRAO social science.
2. WMU offers Special Education in the areas of emotionally impairment and
learning disabilities or cognitive impaired and learning disability. Either
option can include an elementary or secondary emphasis.
3. Electives should be appropriate to a teaching minor. See WMU catalog or
contact WMU College of Education advisor (see below) for appropriate
selection of courses.
4. Selection for Special Education:
a. Submit required materials to WMU College of Education Admissions by
January 15 for admission to special education the following fall
semester.
b. Attach to the application acceptable scores on the Michigan Test for
Teacher Certification (MTTC) - Basic Skills section.
c. Earn a minimum of 56 semester credits (spring credits are counted).
d. Complete all WMU Intellectual Skills Development requirements
(see Note 5)
e. Complete PSYC 205 (ED 250 at WMU) with a "C" (2.0) or better.
f. Achieve a minimum 2.5 or better cumulative GPA at the time of applica-
tion.
g. Provide documentation at least thirty clock hours of experience with
person/s with a disability. Contact the WMU Department of Special
Education for forms.
h. Completion of a LiveScan background check.
i. Students are selected once a year. All above requirements must be
met and submitted to the College of Education Advising Office by
January 15. Selection is competitive.
j. Verification of a current TB test.
5. WMU requires all students to satisfactorily complete an Intellectual Skills
Development Program. LCC courses which meet the Intellectual Skills require-
ments are: Writing: WRIT 121; Reading: Satisfactory completion of 26
semester credits of transferable credits, or the completion of WMU ED 104,
or exemption based upon a standardized reading test at WMU; and Quantifica-
tion: MATH 107.
6. Two semester credits of health and well-being courses are required for
graduation from WMU. Select from PFFT 114; PFHW 163.
7. PSYC 200 is a MACRAO Transfer Agreement requirement. Two additional required
courses will be completed at WMU at the 300-400 level in General Education
Distribution Areas I-VII. Consult a WMU College of Education advisor prior
to selecting these two courses.
8. EDUC 201 and 226 transfer as WMU LS 3770. EDUC 226 and 228 are only to be
taken by students who have been accepted to WMU's upper professional level
in the College of Education.
9. Students seeking an LCC associate degree must fulfill specific graduation
requirements including the LCC general education core requirements. See the
LCC catalog at http://www.lcc.edu/catalog for additional details.
10. This transfer guide requires basic skill levels in mathematics, reading, and
writing. To determine accurate course placement, students should take the
Computerized Placement Tests in the LCC Assessment Center (GB 200) prior
