Types of Apprenticeships

Company Sponsored

This is the most common type. In a company sponsored apprenticeship, all aspects of the program are developed, put into practice and evaluated by the company. A member from the management team of the company and the apprentice sign the apprenticeship agreement.

Union Sponsored

In this type of apprenticeship. All aspects of the program are developed, put into practice and evaluated by the union. A representative of the union and the apprentice sign the apprenticeship agreement. The apprentice is assigned to a union company for their on-the-job training.

Joint Sponsored

In a joint sponsored apprenticeship, all aspects of the program are developed, put into practice and evaluated by a group called the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. In this case, a representative of the company, a representative from the union and the apprentice signs the apprenticeship agreement.

Association Sponsored

In an association sponsored apprenticeship, all aspects of the program are developed, put into practice and evaluated by a business association. In this case, a management member of the association and the apprentice sign the agreement. The apprentice is assigned to a union company for on-the-job training.
