Online Information
The LCC Financial Aid Office maintains a website complete with hours of operation, application instructions, downloadable forms, and in-depth information on various types of aid at www.lcc.edu/fa. -
When to Apply
Students must apply each year by completing and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal government. Students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA as soon as income taxes are filed. If you are not required to file taxes you may submit your FAFSA as early as January 1.
Late applications are accepted but may not result in a financial aid award prior to registration for the student's first semester. If financial aid has not been awarded prior to the student's payment due date, the student must pay any outstanding balance. If financial aid is awarded to a student after the semester begins, the student will be reimbursed for tuition and fees up to the amount of the award. Students not awarded financial aid as a result of FAFSA processing will remain responsible for payment of all outstanding balances. Students may apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and are able to use computers in the LCC Star Lab located in Room 203, Gannon Building.

Variable-Date Courses
Financial aid will pay for courses that are less than a full semester in length. However, a student MUST receive a grade and credit for the course. Any student who enrolled in a variable date course, who receives aid for the course, but does not receive a grade/credit will be required to REPAY any financial aid attributed to that course. Please note: financial aid will NOT PAY for non-credit courses and seminars.
Financial Aid Checks
ALL FINANCIAL AID CHECKS WILL BE MAILED TO CURRENT ADDRESS. STUDENTS MUST KEEP THEIR ADDRESS CURRENT.
If the total amount of the student's financial aid award for the semester exceeds the student's tuition and fees owed to LCC, a refund for any remaining credit balance will be mailed. Credit balance checks are mailed at the beginning of the first week of the semester, and on a weekly basis as student financial aid applications become completed, awarded, and/or accepted.
Please note that receipt of a credit balance check does not guarantee that the student's student account is at a zero balance. Credit Balance checks are based on the number of hours in which the student is enrolled at the time disbursement is made to the student's account. If the student drops or adds hours, the student's aid may be subject to adjustment. If the student drops hours, the student may also owe the college money, and will be billed accordingly.
Notice: Congress passed new provisions governing federal financial assistance if a student completely withdraws from all classes before 60% of the semester has passed. These provisions state that a student is not entitled to 100% of awarded federal grants until the student has completed 60% of the semester, which is approximately 9.5 weeks. In addition, these provisions state that if a student fails to receive a passing grade in at least one course, LCC must assume that the student unofficially withdrew at the midpoint of the semester and will be responsible for paying a portion of the aid they received. If a student completely withdraws before the 60% point in the semester or if the student does not receive a passing grade in at least one course, the student must REPAY THE GRANT PROGRAM A PORTION OF THE GRANT RECEIVED. This amount must be repaid in full or the student will lose further eligibility to register for classes and receive federal student financial aid at Lansing Community College.
