Faculty & Staff – Prof. Curlada Eure-Harris
LCC Faculty Licensed Professional Counselor
I came to LCC almost twenty years ago with career counseling as my specialty. I wanted to help people make more personal and fulfilling education and career decisions. It was my dream job.
LCC has supported the presence of licensed professional
counselors as providers of comprehensive student services, offering students
and prospective students support for a number of issues – career and academic
decisions, personal and academic success, problems and crises.
We have had to adjust to the element of fast change to continue to be relevant
for our students. And Lansing Community College has lead Michigan community
colleges in fast change as well. We keep up with curriculum and marketplace
outcomes as well as instructional delivery modes. It’s all related to student
success. That’s a goal we share with everyone at LCC.
What I believe and what I’ve seen occur at LCC is that it is not simply talent, education, or genius that is responsible for success. Those things are important, obviously. But persistence, I believe, is the most powerful factor in success. Even genius can’t insure success for students who do not carry on because of challenges that threaten their ability to follow their dreams. As a counselor I support students, in any professional way I can, to grow, to make a plan, and to follow through with it. That helps make LCC a successful experience for them. And it’s why this is still a dream job for me.
