Business & Community - Tom Eifert

President, T. H. Eifert Mechanical Contractors and LCC Alumnus

LCC was really my starting point in furthering my education through the trades. I knew what I wanted to do - I wanted to be a craftsman, to build things, see a finished product. I went into an apprenticeship program as a green farm kid and came out five years later with a strong skill set. Working in the field for contractors gave me experience, and it gave me the confidence in 1975 to start my own business. Now I have employees who attended LCC apprenticeships like I did.

For 33 years we've had to keep up with changes in the field - codes, machinery, new automations - which meant further education all along the way. Continuing education is simply going to be more and more important in the future, in just about every field.

LCC bettered my life and my family's life. I could not have completed my initial education without financial help. So in turn I support the LCC Foundation as my way of giving back. Now I want to help students of the future.

If I had one piece of advice to offer to young people, or anyone for that matter, it's to do what you really want to do. Get the training. There's no excuse as long as we have LCC right here. You can be anything you want to be. They'll help you make it happen.
