LCC Presidential Search
LANSING, MICH. (March 10, 2008) – The Lansing
Community College (LCC) Board of Trustees voted Monday night to elect Dr. Brent
Knight as the college’s new president. Knight currently serves as president of
Morton College in Cicero, Il.
“Dr. Knight demonstrated the skills and experience needed to lead LCC into the
future said Robin Smith, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. “The Board is
confident he will be a great leader.”
During his time at Morton College, Knight developed and employed a new college
branding campaign to restore the overall image of the college. Knight also
developed strong relationships with the board, faculty and key stakeholders at
Morton College. Knight led an effort which increased the percentage of Latino
administrators from one percent to more than 50 percent, in order to better
align itself with its student body which is comprised of more than 70 percent
Latino students. He also managed an extensive fiscal plan which created annual
increases under the tax cap, a three-year tuition plan and a bond sale, also
under the tax cap.
The vote on Monday concludes the search for the newest LCC president. LCC worked
with the presidential search firm, Greenwood and Associates, to identify
candidates and narrowed the field to four in February. The Board then held open
forums for faculty, staff, students and community members to ask questions and
voice their opinions on the finalists. The candidate interviews were also open
to the public.
“The search process for our new president has been on going for several months,”
said Robin Smith. “We feel that we have exhausted all resources and maintained
an open forum for community members to voice their opinions about our
candidates. We feel we have selected the strongest candidate for the position.”
Knight will officially take office July 1, 2008. Terms of his contract are still
being negotiated.
