LCCTEXT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

What is LCCText?

LCCText is the Lansing Community College email and text message emergency notification system. The system would be used during emergencies such as a tornado warning, college closing due to severe winter weather, or an on-campus emergency.

LCCText is one of several means of providing emergency notifications to students and employees. Please review the Emergency Notifications page for additional information.

How do I sign up?

To sign up to receive LCCText messages, log into StarPort. Select the My Place tab, then select the LCCText tab. Log into the LCCText system using your college TUID and password. Once you are logged into LCCText, you will be able to add and delete your email and mobile wireless device addresses.

How many email addresses and mobile wireless devices can I enter?

The LCCText system will allow you to enter up to three email addresses and three mobile wireless devices.

Is there a charge for LCCText?

Lansing Community College does not charge for this service. However, depending on the terms of your wireless mobile device service agreement, you may be charged by your wireless service provider when you receive an LCCText message.

How do I know if my cell phone can receive the LCCText messages?

The LCCText system works by sending an email message to the mobile wireless devices you enter in the system. When adding a wireless mobile device to LCCText, a dropdown menu will allow you to select from a list of known wireless service providers known to provide email message delivery. However, the terms of your wireless mobile device service agreement and the type of wireless mobile device you use may dictate whether you will be able to receive the LCCText messages. Check with your wireless mobile device provider if you have further questions about receiving LCCText messages.

How quickly will I get an LCCText message?

At the Downtown and West Campus locations, all the classroom buildings have emergency public address paging systems. As quickly as enough is known in order to provide accurate information and instructions after an emergency situation develops, a message can be broadcast over the voice paging systems

Once a message has been broadcast over the building paging systems, messages may be sent through the LCCText system.  It may take 5 to 20 minutes for the wireless system providers to deliver a LCCText message to your mobile wireless device.  Be aware that some wireless providers may perceive text messages sent to multiple recipients as spam and filter them out.
