Emergency Star Alert System (ESA)
What is ESA?
ESA is the Lansing Community College emergency notification system. The system would be used during emergencies such as a tornado warning, college closing due to severe winter weather, or an on-campus emergency.
ESA is one of several means of providing emergency notifications to students and employees. Please review the Emergency Notifications page for additional information.
How do I sign up?
As an LCC student or staff member, you are automatically signed up to receive ESA messages.
Is there a charge for ESA?
Lansing Community College does not charge for this service. However, depending on the terms of your wireless mobile device service agreement, you may be charged by your wireless service provider when you receive an ESA message.
How do I know if my cell phone can receive the ESA messages?
The ESA system works by sending an email message and/or text message to the mobile wireless devices that was entered into banner. If you do not receive alerts, contact the helpdesk for assistance.
How quickly will I get an ESA message?
At the Downtown and West Campus locations, all the classroom buildings have emergency public address paging systems. As quickly as enough is known in order to provide accurate information and instructions after an emergency situation develops, a message can be broadcast over the voice paging systems.
Once a message has been broadcast over the building paging systems, messages may be sent through the ESA system. It may take 5 to 20 minutes for the wireless system providers to deliver a ESA message to your mobile wireless device.
