Why and how to save files in Rich Text Format

Saving a file in Rich Text or RTF format allows other viewers of your documents to open the document regardless of the version or type of software they may be using.  For instance, a document written in Microsoft Word and saved as a .doc file may not be able to be opened by someone who uses Microsoft Works or a different version of Microsoft Word.  However, if the document is saved in rich text format, other people should be able to view it regardless of which software program they use. Therefore, a student should always save documents submitted as RTF to ensure that it can be read universally

How to save a document in Rich Text Format:

  1. After you finish writing your document click on File located on the tool bar on the top left-hand side of the screen
