Students with documented disabilities may be eligible to utilize testing accommodations (use of a reader/scribe, a quiet room, or extended time) during their studies at LCC. In order to be eligible for these accommodations, the student must provide the Office of Disability Support Services with the documentation that is required to determine eligibility.
Steps to take when working with a Test Reader or a Scribe
1.
Students must call Reader Services (517-483-1225)
at least 5 days before each test to
schedule a reader.
Once the call has been made, Reader Services will schedule
an appointment with a Reader and schedule time for
a Quiet Room in the Assessment Center.
2. It is the student's responsibility to
inform instructor(s) if a test
accommodation is needed.
It is recommended that students discuss any testing
accommodations with each instructor during
the first week of class.
3.
During the class period before each test,
the student must remind the instructor to have
the test
delivered to the Assessment Center before the test is to be
taken. At that time, the student should also remind the
instructor that the student will be taking the test in the
Assessment
Center and will not be in the classroom for the test during the
time
that the class is taking the quiz or exam.
4. Check in for all appointments with a Reader
at the
Counseling & Advising Center front desk (204 GB).
Readers will only wait 15 minutes past the appointment time.
5. Readers can
NOT do any of the following: explain, re-word, or
assist with choosing answers on a test; tutor or teach any class
materials; do personal tasks or errands; act as a go-between
with the student and the instructor.
Using a Quiet Room for Testing
1. The student should make
arrangements for a Quiet Room
at least 5 days before the date of the test.

Extended time for testing
If the student's documentation supports the need for more time to complete tests, then ODSS will grant the student up to 50% more time than what is given to the rest of the class to complete the same test.
Students planning to access this accommodation must remind their instructor that they will be using more time to complete the test, and they should take the test at the Assessment Center in order for the test to be proctored.
