Program Length
The Health Unit Coordinator Program lasts eight weeks, not including prerequisites necessary for entry into the program.

Nature of Work
The Health Unit Clerk or Coordinator serves as a receptionist and general clerk at the nurse's station of a hospital or nursing home. Duties include answering the phone, keeping account of staff, charts, and patient whereabouts; ordering supplies, diets, x-rays and lab work, plus noting doctors' orders. There is no direct patient care.

Skills You Need
Critical thinking, phone, keyboarding, organizational and people skills are required, along with good physical and emotional health and good oral and written communications.
