The Michigan Society of Gerontology will hold the 7th Annual Art & Science of Aging Conference Mom, I Think We Should Talk: Preparing for the Final Transition, at Grand Valley State University's Richard M. DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium. This conference serves as an interdisciplinary and inter-professional forum of research on aging topics and best practices in working with and for older adults. February 23-26, 2012 - Arlington, VA

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education is accepting registrations for its 38th Annual Meeting and Educational Leadership Conference to be held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel. The theme is "Engaging Aging in Higher Education." This is the premier national forum for the discussion of issues in gerontological and geriatric education. To register go to www.aghe.org/register.

February 29, 2012 - Farmington Hills, MI

The Mental Health & Aging Project will present a day long workshop at the Wayne State University Oakland Center in Farmington Hills on February 29, 2012: Addressing Clutter and Hoarding: Strategies & Interventions for Working with Older Adults. This workshop provides an overview of hoarding behaviors, best practices, and intervention strategies, including a group therapy approach used with older adults. March 16, 2012 - Lansing, MI

The Mental Health & Aging Project will present GERO 190 Special Topics in Gerontology. Elder Abuse will be taught by Susan Steinke, BA, from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Lansing Community College. Validating Feelings to Improve Communication with People with Dementia will be taught by Christine Simons, BS, CTRS, from 1:00 PM - 5:00. Contact hours are available for AFC licensees & administrators, nursing home administrators, nurses, and social workers. The registration fee is $60 for each half-day program. March 16, 2012 - Farmington Hills, MI

The Neighborhood Service Organization and Eastern Michigan University are offering the training INTERVENTIONS PART 2 - Recognizing, Preventing and Responding to Behaviors that Result From Brain Dysfunction presented by Shelly Weaverdyck, PhD. This is the second in a series on behaviors and brain dysfunction. Interventions will be covered more in depth.
