 What Is A Proficiency Test?

A proficiency test is a form of the Final Exam for a course.  It is used to show mastery of the material in a course and raise a Math Basic Skill Level.

Proficiency tests are available for MATH 050, MATH 107, and MATH 112.  For a list of topics covered on these tests, click on the appropriate link below, which will bring you to the topics covered in that course.

 What Are The Guidelines?

  • A picture ID and a student number are required prior to starting a test.

  • Proficiency Tests are not be graded immediately.  You will need to check back with the Assessment Center at a later date to learn the results of your Proficiency Test.

  • You may take both the Math 050 and Math 107 Proficiency Tests twice in a calendar year.  You may only take the Math 112 Proficiency Test ONCE.  After this one attempt, you may NOT try that Proficiency Test again.

  • There is no fee to take the MATH 050 and MATH 107 Proficiency Tests, and the MATH 112 Proficiency Test costs $50.

 Where Do I Take A Proficiency Test?

Proficiency tests are taken in the Assessment Center, located in Suite 2100 of the Gannon Vocational-Technical Building. Please call the Assessment Center at (517) 267-5500 for testing hours.
