Online communities play an important role in the way the Web is currently shaped, informing the way in which many people communicate with other individuals and extended groups or communities.
Some currently popular examples are sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Given the medium's popularity and ability to connect with the community on a personal level, the Communications and Marketing department has been making use of several social networking sites and is looking towards the future of the medium.
User created content is another integral part of the Web as it stands today. Sites such as Flickr and YouTube host user created media, giving communities a viewing space and forum to discuss it in. This gives the college the opportunity to better express its strategic goals to a larger audience.
