Abstract - A brief summary of a work.
Abstracts provide a quick way to learn whether a long article is useful.
Catalog - A computer or paper source which
lists a library's holdings--
books, CDs, videos, DVDs, audiocassettes, ebooks and so on. The
LCC Library catalog is a good example.
Citation - Information that identifies a book or an
article. Citations include author, title, volume, page numbers and publication information.
Database - A searchable computer
file that stores citations, abstracts,
full text articles and other records of information.

Full text – A database record which contains the
complete text of a periodical article.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) – A
service that allows borrowers to get materials that
are not owned by the LCC Library.
LCC students and employees fill out an
ILL request form.
The LCC Library then borrows the materials from other libraries.
Keyword search - A search that retrieves information
which contains the words used. Keyword searching can be used in the
library catalog and research databases.
Periodical - A publication which is published on a
regular schedule. Newspapers, magazines, and academic journals are examples of
periodicals.
Search strategy – A
statement that uses words,
Boolean operators (and, or not),
wildcards,
phrases,
and other features to locate information.
Subject search – A search that retrieves information about the words used.
Subject searching can be used in the library catalog and research databases.

World Wide Web (WWW). An example
