Citing Sources: MLA and APA

Modern Language Association (MLA) style is often used by students in the humanities -- English, history, writing, speech, etc. American Psychological Association (APA) style is often used by students in the social sciences -- psychology, sociology, business, nursing, etc.

Citation Tips

  1. Help from librarians - Reference librarians are happy to assist you with citation formats!

  2. Unknown elements - In general, if an element is unknown, it is left out of the citation.
    • For example, if a book has no author, begin the citation with the title.
