Keyword Search Tips

Clicking on the Keyword tab displays a search box and search tips about the following features:

Feature Example
Adjacency
Find one word or phrase. Two or more words are first searched together as a single phrase. If the phrase is not found, "and" is inserted and retrieves records that include both terms but not necessarily together
child development retrieves only records that include this phrase
Phrase Searches
Search for complete phrases by enclosing them in double quotation marks
"american psychological association" retrieves records with this exact phrase
Wild Cards
Use an asterisk (*) to find plurals and variant endings of words
twin* retrieves records including twin, twine, twins
Boolean Operators (Connectors)
and
retrieves records including all your keywords; or retrieves records with at least one of your keywords; not excludes records that include the keyword following not
heredity and twins retrieves all records including both words
Proximity Operators
Find words close to each other using the word near
child* near psychology retrieves any record in which variants of the word child occur near the word psychology
Field Limits
Restrict your search to specific fields, such as author, title, subject
a:jung and t:symbols retrieves records with Jung as author and the word symbols in the title
