Lansing Community College Library | Issue No. 8 | Spring 2007
Allow us to introduce . . .
The library is very pleased to welcome aboard two new
librarians to our department. Suzanne Bernsten and Karl Ericson were hired
and worked with us this past fall, but with this newsletter we’d like to
share their introductions.
Please join us with a hearty welcome to Suzanne and
Karl!
Hi! My name is Karl Ericson and I’m very pleased
to be a part of the LCC Library Team. Previously I worked for Davenport
University’s Library Information Commons at their Lansing campus. During my five years there I learned much about working with students
and about the many intricacies of libraries. I also began to work on
studies towards a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science
which I received in the spring of 2005. I have also worked for the
Capital Area District Library system and continue to pick up shifts
whenever I can as a substitute librarian, librarian assistant, and
clerk.
During my free time I enjoy being at home with my
family, making music on drums, guitar, and keyboard, playing records and
CDs, playing with Playdough, creating works of art, and watching TV. As
well, I also enjoy yoga and meditation, biking, walking, snowboarding,
skateboarding, writing and reading.
I’m looking forward to learning more about
providing quality reference and instruction services as I practice and
develop my skills on the job. I hope, in time, to find my niche both
within the library and within LCC as a whole.
Suzanne came to LCC from Hagerty Library at Drexel
University where she worked as an evening Reference Librarian. She also
worked as a Reference Librarian at Camden Public Library in Camden, New
Jersey where she taught basic computer classes for seniors, set up a teen
corner, and developed a collection of materials about Puerto Rico to serve
the local community. At LCC, Suzanne will work at the Reference desk, assist
with email reference, teach library instruction classes and order materials
for the education and easy reading browsing collections.
Suzanne grew up in East Lansing and recently moved back to the area. She has
spent time in Zimbabwe, Indonesia, and Brazil and enjoys learning about
different languages and cultures. Before becoming a librarian, Suzanne
taught English as a Second Language. She earned a B.A. in English from
Macalester College and an M.A. in TESOL and M.S. in Library and Information
Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
