How to Add a URL from a Library Research Database to an Angel Course Page

  1. Display the search page of the database to which you want to link. Highlight the page's URL.
  2. Press Control - C.
  3. Open the page in your Angel course where you want the URL to appear.
  4. Click on Add Content.
  5. Click on Link. The page shown below opens:

  1. Under Page Settings, enter a title in the Title box; enter a subtitle in the Subtitle box if you wish.
  2. Under Link Settings, find the dropdown menu for Link Target and select New Window.
    Important
    :
The reason for doing this is that some library research database links will not open within Angel.
  3. Place your cursor in the "Link URL" box and press Control - V to paste the URL into the box.

Important: If you are on campus when creating a persistent link to a research database title or article, add the following prefix at the beginning of the URL:  https://envoy.lcc.edu/login?url=

Example of a persistent link from General OneFile with the Envoy prefix added:

https://envoy.lcc.edu/login?url=http://find.galegroup.com/itx/infomark.do?type=static&page=SubjectSearch&prodId=ITOF&version=1.0&userGroupName=lom_lansingcc&source=gale

Note: If you are on campus when you create a persistent link, it is vital to add the prefix https://envoy.lcc.edu/login?url=. If you do not add it, the link will not work from off campus. If you are off campus when you establish the link, the prefix will be included in the URL you copy and paste.

Note: Some persistent links are too long to fit into the Angel "Link URL" box. If the URL you're working with is too long, you can create a "tiny URL" which will fit. A number of websites provide free creation of tiny URLs. For example, see http://tinyurl.com.
