Linking to Videos

Films on Demand provides access to streaming educational videos. Below are instructions for creating links in Desire2Learn to:

Individual Videos | Multiple Videos on a Topic | Playlists

Individual Videos

It is easier to link to a video in Desire2Learn if you have two windows or tabs open.

In the first window/tab:

  1. Go to Films on Demand.
  2. Locate a video.
  3. Click on the title of the video.
  4. Click on Title URL below the video summary.

In the second window/tab:

  1. Log into Desire2Learn.
  2. Click on Content.
  3. Select the Module you want the object to appear in or create a new Module.
  4. Click on New and Create a Link.
  5. Type the video title in the title box.
  6. Delete https:// from the URL box and paste the video URL.
  7. Check box to Open as External Resource.
  8. Select Create.

Multiple Videos on a Topic

It is easier to link to a group of videos in Desire2Learn if you have two windows or tabs open.

In the first window/tab:

Films on Demand

  1. Go to Films on Demand.
  2. Browse the videos by clicking on the Collections dropdown in the menu bar at the top of the page. Once you get to a collection, you can browse more using the links on the left side of the page. 
  3. Click on Page Link underneath the title of the collection at the top of the page.  For example, you could link to Environmental Science Video Collection or Natural Resources or Water and Land Use.

In the second window/tab:

  1. Log into Desire2Learn.
  2. Click on Content.
  3. Select the Module you want the object to appear in or create a new Module.
  4. Click on New and Create a Link.
  5. Type the video title in the title box.
  6. Delete https:// from the URL box and paste the URL.
  7. Check box to Open as External Resource.
  8. Select Create.

Playlists

You can create custom playlists by putting together individual videos. Before you can set up a playlist, you must create an account so you can save your playlist.

Trouble Viewing Videos in D2L

If students complain they cannot view videos in D2L, the content may be blocked by their web browser.
