Fines and Fees
The LCC Library accepts StarCards, cash, and personal checks as forms of payment. Library fees and fines are non-refundable.

Lost and Damaged Materials
Lost or damaged materials can be replaced or paid for based on the following fee schedule.

* Books, AV Materials, and CDs:  $45.00

* Browsing Paperbacks and READ Books:  $25.00

* Reference Books:  $100.00

Interlibrary Loan Materials: Varies by item

Reserve Materials:  Varies by item

Marker Sets: $10.00

Headphones: $7.00

* Replaced within 6 months with a new copy of same title/edition

Overdue Materials
Fines are assessed and collected for overdue reserve materials and MP3 players. Fines are automatically calculated by the Library's computer catalog system and are charged as follows:

50¢ per hour up to $5.00 per item

After $5.00 an additional charge of $2.00 per day (per item) up to the cost of the item will incur.

FAX and Photocopiers
Fees for FAX transactions are collected at the Multimedia Desk. Fees for photocopies are collected at the photocopy machines. Costs for FAX and photocopying is as follows:

FAX (free cover sheet):  $1.00 per page

Black and White Copies:

Cash:  15¢ per page

With StarCard:  10¢ per page

Color Copies:  $1.00 per page

Borrowing Materials

The LCC Library is located on the 2nd, and parts of the 3rd and 4th floors, of the Abel B. Sykes Technology and Learning Center (TLC) building on LCC's Downtown campus. To access Library materials on the 3rd and 4th floors you must first enter the Library on the 2nd floor of the TLC building.

Current students and employees must present a valid StarCard to check out Library materials. StarCards can be obtained at the StarCard & Parking Services Office in the Gannon Building (2299 GB).

Non-LCC patrons may obtain a MichiCard from participating home libraries or purchase a LCC Library Guest Permit. Guest Permits cost $73.00, and are valid for the current semester. Guest Permit and MichiCard holders must present their valid cards to check out Library materials.

It is also possible to request delivery of library materials to West Campus and several other locations.

Borrowing Periods

The following loan periods apply to library materials:

Circulating Items: 4 weeks, two renewals

Reserve Items (varies and is specified by instructors who submit items for reserve):

4 hours (in-library use only), 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 1 week

eAudiobooks: 21 days

MelCat Items:

Print items: 21 days, one renewal

Non-print : 7 days, no renewal

Renewing Materials

An item may be renewed if it has not been requested by another patron. Billed overdue items may not be renewed. Renewals are not available for reserves. To renew an item by phone, call 483-1626.

You may also renew books online at the library's website by logging into Your Library Account.

Missing Materials

If the item you want is not on the shelf, ask a reference librarian to complete a Missing Material Report Form. You will then be notified if the item is located or is unavailable.

Placing a Hold

From the library catalog, click on the request button and  follow the directions on the screen. Be sure to include the last date needed.

Unpaid Fees and Unreturned Materials

Unpaid library fees and unreturned library materials will result in a hold on your student record. Before registering for classes or obtaining grades or transcripts, students must return all overdue materials and pay appropriate fees. Once fees are paid and materials are returned, your student record will be cleared of library holds.

Course Reserves

Print and media reserve materials are housed at the Checkout Desk. Reserve materials must be returned to the Checkout Desk. Renewals are not available for print and media reserve materials.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan materials may be borrowed for you from other libraries when the LCC Library does not have the item you need. The borrowing period may differ from the posted LCC Library borrowing periods due to the lending library's restrictions. Overdue and Replacement fees may also differ, since these fees are determined by the lending library.  Please contact (517) 483-1665 for assistance.

Borrowing Equipment

Students and current employees must present a current StarCard at the Multimedia Desk to use audiovisual (AV) equipment in the library Multimedia rooms.

Please contact College AV Services at 483-1715 to reserve AV material for classroom use.

AV material on reserve may be viewed in the library. AV material in the LCC Video Catalog may also be viewed in the library. Request the item at the Multimedia desk in the library.
