Peer Writing Assistants

Peer Writing Assistants (PWAs) work with students at all levels of proficiency and at any stage in the writing process. They have been selected from a large pool of qualified applicants and specially prepared through a thirty-hour intensive training program. Writing assistance is free and is available to all LCC students working on writing projects—not just students in writing classes. We will offer one-on-one and small group peer writing assistance for students during the following hours this semester:

Monday 9:00am -6:00pm
Tuesday 9:00am - 8:00pm
Wednesday 9:00am - 8:00pm
Thursday 9:00am - 6:00pm
Friday 10:00am - 2:00pm
Saturday 10:00am - 2:00pm*
Sunday closed

* The Writing Center is not open on Saturday during the summer semester.

Faculty Writing Assistance

Tim Miank serves as our Writing Across the Curriculum Coordinator and is available to assist faculty with incorporating writing into class instruction, developing more effective writing assignments, responding to student writing, and more. The Writing Across the Curriculum program also offers a variety of print resources for faculty.

Tours/Information Sessions

Faculty are welcome to bring their classes into the Center for a tour. Please call or stop in to set up a time. We ask that you give us as much advance notice as possible.

Peer Response Video

A video workshop developed by Writing Center staff and designed to teach students to work effectively in peer response writing groups is available for classroom playback via Media Retrieval. Ask for Tape #3751, “An Introduction to Peer Response Writing Groups.” If you wish to preview the tape, Jill Reglin can loan you a copy.

Print Resources for Students

The Writing Center houses a substantial collection of print resources including dictionaries, thesauri, writing handbooks, MLA and APA manuals, reading anthologies, and textbooks. Students do not need an appointment to use these materials. They may simply stop in during open hours. Our Lead Writing Assistants, who maintain the front office counter, are happy to assist them in locating the resources they need to use.

"I liked the Writing Center because I learned a lot from those who work there.Visiting The Writing Center was almost like an additional class for me."

Abraham Alier, Elementary Education Major

Work Area for Student Writers

Students do not need an appointment if they care to use The Writing Center as an area to work on writing projects. They may stop in to use a table as space allows. Computers in the Writing Center are reserved for Writing Center use, but students are welcome to bring in their own laptops.

Student-Faculty Conference Tables

Faculty may reserve tables, as limited space allows, for holding office hours and conferences with students to discuss writing. Since we want the Center to be a place where students and faculty interact with their peers as well as one another, we encourage such meetings. Please call us or stop in to reserve a table for your use during open hours. We ask that faculty use the Assessment Center for quizzes and tests.
