PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Lansing Community College is pleased to present the Japan Adventure program. This program, which began in 1982, is an outgrowth of the sister-state relationship between Michigan and Shiga, Japan.Students live in the city of Otsu, the capital of Shiga. It is a unique 6-month academic work-study program made possible through the cooperative efforts of Lansing Community College and Biwako Kisen Co., Ltd. of Otsu, Japan.
Participating U.S. students acquire proficiency in the Japanese language and engage in studies of the history, political structure, and economy of Japan. While attending classes and living in Japan, students will also work on the sternwheeler "Michigan," a restaurant cruise ship on Lake Biwa.
Lansing Community College faculty/administrators reside in the
Michigan House in Otsu, our educational center, with the LCC students.
In addition, Japanese instructors teach appropriate segments of the
academic program.
PURPOSE
The main purpose of the program is to provide participating students in a total immersion environment with the opportunity to:

systems
B. acquire practical experiences in the hospitality service industry

C. promote mutual friendship between Americans and Japanese.
This immersion in the Japanese society, which cannot be duplicated in
a traditional classroom, is a learning experience that prepares LCC
