The theme for Global Perspectives 2008 is “Global Competence: What? Why? How?“.  For a conference logo we chose a
human face with varied dimensions of age, gender and race, all fused into one. The logo was designed by Tim Kolb, a
student staff of the CIIE. Tim explains the thinking behind the logo and its significance as follows:

The head in the logo symbolizes diversity. The left half of the face is that of a woman and the right half is a man. Starting
on the Northwest quarter of the face and going clockwise, the following major races are shown: Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian,
and Black. I also tried to take age into consideration. The quadrants are going through the ages from 20 to 65…..  In effect,
we can all learn from each other; it does not matter where we are from, what we believe in, what color our skin wears, or
how improved our individual skills are. Melting races, genders, and age together gives us the perfect mix that can
build competence in the things we do today and in the future.

Global Perspectives Conference 2008 features 40 different sessions.  The Opening Ceremony will be on Tuesday, April 1,
2008, 9:30 a.m. at the LCC main campus, Paula Cunningham Administration building, Board Room. Keynote speaker

   Dr. Pamela Smith
will speak
on the topic, “The Globalization of Health Care: What Does it Mean for You”.
