Religion Program
Religion is a candle inside a multicolored lantern. Everyone looks
through a particular color, but the candle is always there.
Mohammed Neguib
Religion concerns itself with that
which is beyond the known, the natural, and the expected. It
acknowledges the mysterious, the supernatural, and the
transcendent. Religion helps people deal with the inexplicable
elements of human existence and gives them a context within which
to relate to and understand the world and their place in it.
Members of a religion share a common object of devotion, code of
ethics or behavior and a frame of reference within which they
understand life and death. Students study religion to learn the
teachings, beliefs and ethics of religious traditions throughout
the world and throughout history. The study of religion at Lansing
Community College does not presuppose the truth of any one
religious tradition but looks at many different faith traditions
in an attempt to understand the commonalities and differences in
individual religions as part of humankind’s ongoing search for
meaning.
