Therapeutic Massage
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Lansing Community College’s
Therapeutic Massage Program distinctive?
1)
High regard in the community
2)
Taught by instructors with many
years of “real life” experience
3)
Low tuition and fees compared to
private schools
When does the program start?
You can start the program during the fall or spring semesters each
year.
How long does it take to complete the
program and what type of degree do I earn?
The Therapeutic Massage Program can be completed in four consecutive
semesters (or up to five years maximum for a part-time student.). After completing your coursework, you will earn a Certificate of
Achievement in Therapeutic Massage.
How large
are the massage classes? What is the instructor to student ratio?
We currently have 18 massage tables in
our facility, and that allows for instructor ratio of 1:18 when
performing hands on work, but lecture classes still have 24 students
with a 1:24 ration. The daytime
classes tend to be smaller than the evening classes.
Do I
need to take any prerequisites before enrolling in the program?
Students are not required to take any prerequisite courses before
starting the program.
Are
there any admission requirements for enrollment in the program?
At this time, students are required to complete and return a
Program Approval Form. Students must submit (with the approval
form) a copy of valid driver's license, a copy of high school
diploma or GED, criminal background check form (attached to approval
form) and proof of liability insurance. When all requirements
are verified students will be notified via email that they have been granted
permission to enroll in MASG and concurrent courses.
Are there
any physical requirements that I must meet?
There is no physical assessment prior to enrolling in the program,
but it helps to be physically fit and agile to perform massage
therapy without becoming fatigued or injured. Please see the
Therapeutic Massage Program web site for a complete list of physical
requirements, skills, and aptitudes that are required for success in
the program.
