Wriggelsworth went into law enforcement in 1966 and served at
Flat Rock, East Lansing, East Lansing and State Capitol Posts as a
police officer. In 1974, he was assigned to the Tri-County Metro
Squad as Field Supervisor and became a Detective Lieutenant in
1977. Elected Ingham County Sheriff in 1988, he continues to serve
in that capacity today.
Wriggelsworth has been an instructor, guest lecturer, and
consultant to Lansing Community College, Michigan State
University, Mid-Michigan Police Academy, Northwestern University,
and the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
In addition to his professional activities, Wriggelsworth has
been active in community affairs. He served three terms on the
Holt Public Schools Board of Education, was a member of the
Lansing Community College Leadership Advisory Board, is a
long-time member of the South Lansing-Holt Rotary Club, has been
active with the Michigan Sheriff’s Association in various
capacities, received the Excellence in Public Service Award from
the Michigan Association of Counties in 2000, was named
Holt-Dimondale Business Alliance “Business Person of the Year” in
2001, has just been appointed to the Michigan Commission on Law
Enforcement Standards by Governor Jennifer Granholm, and has many
other activities and honors to his credit.
Sheriff Wriggelsworth and his wife, Sandy, a fourth grade
teacher at Midway Elementary School, have three sons, two of whom
are serving in law enforcement.
Wriggelsworth will receive his Distinguished Alumni Award at
Lansing Community College’s graduation and will be a speaker at
that event.
