Distinguished Alumni Michael L. Williams 2002
Michael L. WilliamsMichael L. Williams, newly elected President of the
American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), has been
named Distinguished Alumni of the Year for 2002 by the Alumni
Association of Lansing Community College. The Alumni Association
is part of the Lansing Community College Foundation. Williams, a
1984 graduate of LCC's nursing program, teaches nursing to
senior level students at Eastern Michigan University and also
continues to work as a nurse.
Williams graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in
Medical Technology. After graduation, he decided to become a nurse and
entered Lack's nursing program. Upon completion, he worked in Lansing
until 1990 when he moved to the University of Michigan Hospitals as a
clinical nurse specialist for thoracic surgery. He began teaching at
Eastern in 1998. Williams received his master's degree from Grand Valley
University in 1989 and has completed all of the course work for a PhD in
nursing from the University of Michigan.
Married and the father of three daughters, Williams wife is also a
nurse.

Williams joined the AACN in 1985 and has been active with the
organization since that time. He has served on the board and
also chaired the national convention. As President of the
organization, he is traveling throughout the country speaking
and working on issues related to nursing. |

individual's field and service to the community. |
