Dr. St. King dropped
out of high school and didn?t return to the classroom until she was in her
20?s. After receiving a GED, she attended LCC and graduated as an RN.
Subsequently, she completed a bachelor?s degree in health care administration
from St. Joseph?s College in Maine; a master?s degree in administration from
Central Michigan University; a MSW (master?s degree in social work) from
Michigan State University; and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Union
Institute. Since 1991, she has served as owner and executive director of a
multi-consultant private practice, Women?s Personal Growth and Therapy Center,
PC, offering individual and group therapy. Since 1993, she has also been
co-administrator and therapist at Eastside Therapy and Counseling, LLP, a
private practice outpatient mental health center. St. King specializes in
issues of eating disorders, women?s concerns, anxiety disorders and
depression. She is also a field instructor for MSU counseling/psychology
interns and teaches at Davenport University. St. King holds licensure as a
limited license psychologist, a certified social worker and a registered nurse
and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Association
for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups, the American Psychology
Association and Michigan Women Psychologists. She has served as a member of
the board and as board president for EVE, Inc. (End Violent Encounters), a
program to house, educate and financially assist abused women and also
organized a nonprofit agency to provide group therapy services to low income
women and present educational programs on domestic abuse to local
organizations.
St. King has
established a scholarship for students coming to LCC with a GED who
plan to go into healthcare. She wants to help others who, like
herself, don?t consider college an option. Her message? ?Don?t
assume you can?t do what you want. If you have a dream, there are
people at LCC and elsewhere who can show you alternatives and reveal
opportunities that you may not have realized were there for you. For
many, the only limitation is the lack of knowledge about the options
available.?
