The Lansing Community College
Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007 will be awarded to
Kyle Caldwell, President & CEO of ConnectMichigan Alliance (CMA). CMA is a
statewide partnership that promotes a life-long ethic of service in Michigan
and strives to increase service and volunteerism where Michigan residents
live, work and learn. The CMA partners include the Michigan Community
Service Commission, Michigan Nonprofit Association, Michigan Campus Compact
and the Volunteer Centers of Michigan. Caldwell graduated from LCC in 1985
with an associate’s degree and went on to receive a bachelor’s and master’s
degree from Western Michigan University. Caldwell lives in Augusta, Michigan
with his wife, Juliann and two children, Emma and Zachary.
As a student at Lansing Community College, Caldwell was actively involved in
service and volunteerism, which has been a major emphasis of LCC since its
inception, but even more so since LCC became a charter member of the
Michigan Campus Compact over 16 years ago.
Caldwell’s focus on local and state community service also includes serving
on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations such as: Learning to
Give-Michigan; Michigan Civics Education Coalition; MSU Extension and
Experiment Station Advisory Board; National Service-Learning Partnership
Advocacy Committee; Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center; Voices for National
Service; and Western Michigan University School of Communication Alumni
Academy.
The CMA is home of a number of innovative programs including Serve Michigan,
Michigan’s Promise and several national service programs including those
supporting Governor Granholm’s Mentor Michigan Initiative.
Prior to his appointment as President/CEO of CMA, Caldwell served both
Governor John Engler and Governor Jennifer Granholm as the Executive
Director of the Michigan Community Service Commission, a state agency that
builds a culture of service by providing vision and resources to strengthen
communities through volunteerism.
Caldwell’s leadership and commitment to service have been recognized at the
national level with his election as Chair of the American Association of
State Service Commissions, a national organization representing fifty-three
governor-appointed service commissions and their more than 1,200 commission
members.
Past LCC Distinguished Award winners include: District Court Judge Charles
F. Filice; Ingham County Sheriff, Gene L. Wriggelsworth; Tom Eifert, of T.
