Financial Aid Transfer Information
The
following information is meant to give general guidance to
students who are considering transferring from LCC.
Mid-Year Transferring
If you will attend LCC,
for example, Fall semester, and then begin studies at a
new institution beginning Winter/Spring semester, then
you are considered a mid-year transfer student.
Strictly speaking,
financial aid money itself does not transfer from one
college to another. Instead, eligibility is
determined by each institution. Therefore, each
college/university must receive a copy of your FAFSA
results. You can list several colleges on your
FAFSA. To add a college to your FAFSA you need to
do to Step 3 at
www.fafsa.ed.gov and make a correction. Your
transfer college will then be able to process your aid.
Contact your transfer college well in advance to inquire
if there are additional steps or forms you may need to
complete.
End-Year Transferring
If you will begin
studies at a new college beginning Fall semester, then
you are considered an end-year transfer student.
Since you have to
re-apply with the FAFSA every year anyway, simply denote
the new college on your application when you file it.
Your new college will determine your eligibility for
financial aid. Contact your transfer college well in
advance to inquire if there are additional steps or
forms you may need to complete.
Dual
Enrollment
In rare cases, students
will choose to attend two colleges at the same time.
Strictly speaking, a student cannot receive financial
aid from two colleges at the same time. A student,
instead, would have to have their financial aid
processed through only one college, and eligibility is
determined solely by the enrollment at that one college.
For example, if a student is enrolled half-time at
College A, and half-time at College B, he/she can only
have financial aid disbursed from College A, and would
be considered only half-time.
There are some
exceptions to this rule in the case where a consortium
agreement has been pre-articulated and signed by
university representatives to assist a class of students
in completing a university-partnered program. Only the
following consortium agreements have been established by
LCC and partner colleges.
