In October, Toni Glasscoe, Director of K-12 Initiatives and Career Preparation at LCC, made an elevator pitch at the 2009 National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NAACE) conference in Chicago. Her pitch was a request for funds to supplement the recently established Youth Entrepreneurship Program Fund in the LCC Foundation. The fund is an outgrowth of the Own a Business, Own Your Future: So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur Youth Entrepreneurship initiative begun in 2008.

Glasscoe is pictured (far left) holding a check for the  $7500 award she received from the Coleman Fund. The money has been deposited in the LCC Foundation and will be used to support the efforts of seniors in high school, entrepreneurs who are launching their own businesses and successfully compete in the annual Own a Business, Own Your Future: So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur business pitch competition.

ed by their instructors to come and "pitch" a business plan and receive  spontaneous, constructive feedback from a panel of judges comprised of successful, local business owners. The panel of judges included: Nancy Washburne, Founder and Owner of Washburne Travel Centers; Craig Allen, Principal of Adventyx, LLC; and Robert McGowan, Owner of Converged Network Solutions. The judges were impressed with the bold business ideas students presented. Nearly 100 individuals who attended the event left encouraged to "dream" and to launch their business in the face of Michigan's current economic challenges.
