INCLEMENT WEATHER AND SCHOOL CLOSING GUIDELINES

Livingston County Center

Howell High School

LIVINGSTON COUNTY CENTER

When snow or severe weather conditions impact Livingston County and a decision must be made regarding the closing of the College’s Livingston County Center, the following steps are taken:

Lucian Leone – using a limited access phone number -- contacts the Livingston County 911 Emergency Services Center and receives a report on the County’s road conditions from the 911 operator;

Lucian contacts Jean Morciglio to brief her on the report he has received from the 911 operator;

Jean notifies the appropriate people on the main campus;

If the decision is made to close the Livingston County Center, Lucian contacts WHMI-FM in Howell and – using an identifying code word – tells radio station personnel to announce the cancellation of classes at the Livingston County Center. The decision to close the Center will result in the cancellation of LCC’s classes offered at Howell High School as well. Radio station personnel will be reminded to announce that classes offered at BOTH the High School and the Center will be cancelled;

Lucian contacts Sheila Martin and either leaves a voice mail message or speaks with her directly about the cancellation;

Sheila contacts the Departments whose classes will be impacted by the closing;

The Departments contact the instructors whose classes have been cancelled and either confirm that their staff will contact the impacted students or request that staff members at ECE make such contact.

N.B.  In Lucian's absence, Barb Line will be responsible for taking the steps listed above.

HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL

WHEN HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL CLOSES, UNLESS CONTACTED BY LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE, ALL LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLASSES TAUGHT IN THAT BUILDING ARE CANCELLED.

When the decision is made by the Howell Public Schools to close their buildings due to snow, severe weather or emergency conditions, the following steps are taken:

Lucian Leone is contacted by Dr. Marybeth Roose, the Director of Howell Community Education;

Lucian contacts Jean Morciglio to notify her of the Howell Schools’ decision to close their buildings;

Lucian contacts WHMI-FM in Howell and – using an identifying code word – tells radio station personnel to announce the cancellation of LCC classes held at Howell High School. If LCC classes have not been cancelled on the Lansing campus, he reminds station personnel that the cancellation announcement to be broadcast must pertain ONLY TO LCC CLASSES HELD AT HOWELL HIGH SCHOOL;

Lucian contacts Sheila Martin and either leaves a voice mail message or speaks with her directly about the cancellation;

Sheila contacts the Departments whose classes will be impacted by the closing;

The Departments contact the instructors whose classes have been cancelled and either confirm that their staff will contact the impacted students or request that staff members in ECE make such contact.

N.B.  In Lucian's absence, Barb Line will be responsible for taking the steps listed above.
