This training is designed to help the novice technology user learn how to:
  • Navigate within ANGEL.
  • Add content such as folders, web pages, files, links, and drop boxes for assignments.
  • Communicate with students using announcements, course mail, and discussion forums.

The facilitator will also display a basic ANGEL Gradebook; however, due to the complexity of this task, participants need to attend the "ANGEL Beginning Gradebook" session to learn how to appropriately use this feature. Basic computer skills are required to participate in this session. If you need support in this area, come to the CTE (in TLC 324) during open hours and our service-minded staff will be happy to assist you.

Note: This workshop meets the prerequisite requirement for the "LCC/CTE Teaching Online Certification." It is also highly recommended for faculty who teach face-to-face and wish to use their ANGEL course site(s).

ANGEL Drop Box plus Microsoft Word Tips

The ANGEL drop box allows instructors to easily manage the task of assigning, collecting, grading and handing back written work. Additionally, using MS Word, instructors can easily comment on and mark up student documents. Ultimately, by using ANGEL and MS Word, the entire process becomes paperless. This training is highly recommended for the instructor who teaches online and will be paced for the experienced ANGEL user. Previous training and/or experience using ANGEL required.

  • learn how to replace overused bulleted lists with new PowerPoint 2007 SmartArt.
  • make photos snap with new enhanced 2007 picture tools.

In addition, the facilitator will demonstrate how to use PowerPoint’s many print options to create helpful handouts for your students. This workshop is appropriate for the beginning to advanced technology user.

ANGEL Beginning Gradebook: Points-Based

Come to this session to learn how to set up and use ANGEL’s online gradebook. This training is designed to help the novice ANGEL user learn the basics of a points-based grading scheme in ANGEL. Specifically, participants will learn how to:
  • Create categories and assignments
  • Enter student grades and comments
  • Drop the lowest score
  • Display grades and averages (students only see their own)
  • View, save, and print grades
  • Connect a dropbox, quiz, and discussion forum to the gradebook

If you are already familiar with the ANGEL gradebook, you may want to take the "ANGEL Advanced Gradebook" session. "Introduction to ANGEL" or experience using ANGEL is strongly recommended.

ANGEL HTML Editor

Come to this hands-on session to learn about the tools in ANGEL’s HTML editor, and acquire tips for designing content that is visually appealing to students. HTML knowledge is not required because most of the functions look and perform like Microsoft Word tools. Features include the ability to:
  • Paste directly from Microsoft Word into the HTML editor
  • Link to any other content item within the course
  • Insert graphics and audio links within course content
  • Save and categorize comments for quick insertion in email or other course content areas

This workshop will be paced for the advanced user, but anyone interested in learning more about this feature is welcome. Training and/or experience using ANGEL is strongly recommended.

ANGEL 7.3 Discussion Forums

During this session, features of the Discussion Forum will be addressed such as the:
  • "Nested View" that shows all posts on a single page, including the message body
  • peer rating feature, which allows students to assess the quality of each other’s posts
  • ability to flag important items, mark individual posts as read/unread, and search by author
  • new scoring rubrics feature that can be based on the number and quality of posts
  • ability to save draft posts and/or set release dates for posts

Other new features include soft delete, sticky posts (that move to the top of a thread), block replies on selected posts, and private messages. This session will be paced for the experienced ANGEL user.

Converting Quizzes to Assessments in ANGEL

The Assessment item in ANGEL will replace the Quiz item and offers greatly enhanced question analysis, more power for analyzing fill-in-the-blank questions, question pooling, enhanced feedback options, mastery learning options, and more. Come to this hands-on session to learn about these features along with the basics of online testing. Participants will also learn how to convert a quiz to an assessment. Facebook 101

ANGEL Advanced Gradebook

  • set up a gradebook based on percentages,
  • sync grades from content items such as a drop box, quiz, or discussion forum,

A Faculty Guide to LCC's Student Email System

During the first part of this session, staff members from eLearning will provide an overview of how students, including faculty and staff who are taking classes at LCC, are provided with and given official college communication through their LCC student email account. They will also demonstrate how faculty can send email to their students through Banner or ANGEL course mail. During the second half of this workshop, participants will be shown how student email is accessed and used. This workshop is appropriate for all technology users.

Animations in Word and PowerPoint

Tired of watching words slowly rise on the screen in PowerPoint? Are your PowerPoint presentations currently regulated by the FDA as a narcotic? In the newer versions of PowerPoint, anything that can be placed in a slide can be animated with little effort, adding greatly to the visual impact of the presentation. In this seminar, we will illustrate a basic animation method, and participants will practice some techniques to simulate various multi-step processes. This session will be paced for the experienced Word and PowerPoint user.

Using Jing to Capture Computer Actions with Audio

Are you interested in showing students a recording of your computer screen shots along with audio explanations? In this workshop, you will be introduced to screen capture and audio recording in a variety of modes, including full screen capture, region capture, scroll capture, flash capture, video screen capture, audio capture and more! You will also learn how to save your recordings in several output modes. During this workshop, the facilitator will use the following products; Jing, Screen Cast, and Windows Moviemaker. Uploading Test Banks to ANGEL using Respondus

Respondus allows you to upload tests and surveys to an ANGEL course. Participants will practice installing, setting up, importing existing tests, generating tests, and uploading Respondus test banks to ANGEL. The facilitator will also discuss other alternatives to Respondus that allow the user to upload pre-existing exams to ANGEL. This workshop is most appropriate for the intermediate to advanced ANGEL user and previous experience using quizzes or assessments in ANGEL is recommended.

Fundamentals of a Quality Online Learning Environment

Current research indicates that specific instructional strategies can greatly increase the quality of online learning, which ultimately affects the learning and retention of students in online courses. During this session, we will explore what some of these techniques are and how they might look in an online classroom. Developing Your Teaching/Learning/Service Portfolio:
Hybrid

In this three-part hybrid workshop, participants will learn what teaching portfolios are, how they are used at LCC, and what is typically included in a portfolio. Upon enrollment in the workshop, participants will be given access to the ANGEL workshop site. Prior to attending each face-to-face session (F2F), participants are expected to access the "Developing Your Teaching/Learning/Service Portfolio" workshop in ANGEL and complete the assignments for each session. During the scheduled face-to-face sessions, participants will have an opportunity to discuss teaching and learning issues relevant to their portfolios, as well as time to review and share their completed portfolio sections. Participants who register for this workshop are automatically enrolled in all three F2F sessions and are strongly encouraged to bring their laptops to each session. To participate in this hybrid workshop, registration is required by Friday, September 11th.

The Psychology of Disability, Buddhist Mindfulness of Body, and Their Application within a Positive Psychology Framework

Although there is a long history on the psychology of disability, it has been largely ignored in mainstream psychology courses. Buddhist mindfulness represents an ancient cognitive psychology which teaches acceptance and equanimity. The current emphasis on positive psychology brings these concepts together in fascinating ways.

In addition, this workshop would be of benefit to anyone in a mentoring role and/or responsible for giving students’ feedback on presentations.

Advising 101: The Basics of Academic Advising

Sample portfolios will be reviewed. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their laptops and should come prepared to share the first two sections of their portfolios.
