User Alternatives Saving and Helpful Tips

ü      Documents saved on the computer will be automatically deleted once you log off.

ü      Workspace is provided for you through your student e-mail in star port.

o       If you have not requested an e-mail account

§         Log into star port using your TUID

§         Once in star port, click on the “my place” tab

§         Click on the button where you can request an account, this will take a day or more to be completed.

o       For directions on how to access and save on your Online Work Space, log on to www.lcc.edu/helpdesk/student_files/accessing_files.htm

ü      If you need to save right away then sign up for a free e-mail account at either MSN.com or YAHOO.com.

o       Using one of these e-mail accounts you can attach your file to an e-mail and send it to yourself. To be opened again at a later date.

ü      How to save a file to your floppy disk.

o       Click “file” scroll down to “save as”

o       Click on the drop down menu at the top of save menu.

§         Select  and give the file a name

ü      Computers in the lab have CD burners these work best for project too large for a floppy disk, for example, PowerPoint presentation with lots of pictures and clip art.

o       They’re two different types of blank CD’s; CD-R allow you to burn one time only, and CD-RW allows you to add and delete files

o       Start by saving the document to the hard drive, “File” “Save As” save it to desktop.

o       Go to the desktop; double click “My Computer”; open

o       Click and drag the document into the D: drive box.           

ü      Save your document to a USB Flash Drive/Memory Stick  

 

ü      How to open a PDF file.

o       Right click, and scroll down to “Save Target As”

o       Save to the hard drive, for example select “desktop”, click “Save”

o       Go to the Desktop and double click on the file, let the file load and click “open”
