in the landscape industry. Landscape architects, pride themselves on creating

connects to the environment. If so, the Landscape Architecture Program
can provide you with the academic and professional training you need to
carve a niche for yourself in the industry.
Landscape architects and designers are employed by engineering firms, parks and recreation
departments, landscape contractors,
design and build firms, nurseries and garden centers, botanical gardens, and grounds management firms. The national employment
projection for landscape architects is expected to increase 21 to 35
percent now through 2006. Annual salary can range from $26,000 to more
than $74,000, depending on the employer, experience or other economic
factors.
Our curriculum covers topics from landscape planning and planting design
to landscape cost estimating and landscape computer-aided drafting and
design. All of our courses are taught by faculty, professionals who
pride themselves in sound coursework and take a genuine interest in your
studies and your career plans.
Courses for the Landscape Architecture Associate in Applied Science
Degree are offered throughout the year. Many are offered evenings as
well as days to accommodate your schedule. Spring semester begins in
January, summer semester begins in June and fall classes begin in
August.

Landscape Architecture Program
What They Do:
Landscape
architects plan and design residential, commercial and public
properties. This may include home landscapes, housing communities,
parks and recreation facilities, urban green space and commercial
sites. Landscape architects are involved in the professional
process of site analysis, planning, design, layout, construction and
management of landscapes. They strive to find a balance between
nature and industry so that humans may better enjoy the outdoor
environment while still accomplishing their business and day to day
activities.
Who Would Enjoy It:
Students should
enjoy designing and creating outdoor spaces, using a variety of
construction materials and plants. Working outdoors is another
attractive feature of green industry careers.
What They Earn:
The average salary for Landscape Architects was about $39,000 per
year, yet salaries may range anywhere from $24,000 to $65,000 per
year depending on their experience, education and institution for
which they work.
How Many Jobs Available:
Employment is expected to continue to increase faster than average
through the year 2006. There has been a national shortage of workers
over the past several years, thus indicating that there are about 9
positions for every student available in this field.
How Much Schooling, Training, or Skill Development:
Entry into the field can usually be made after taking 3-4 beginning
college level classes. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is often
preferred when pursuing higher levels of achievement in this field.
