Horticulture Program

  West Campus Location

Perhaps you are one of many individuals who simply love plants. You take pride in being able to grow and care for houseplants as well nurturing the annuals and perennials around the place you call home or in a neighborhood flower bed. If so, you may want to consider pursuing a career as horticulturist.

If you like the outdoors and have always liked plants, shrubs and other foliage, you can take what you know and make a career out of it by getting the right training through the Horticulture Program at Lansing Community College. Our program offers coursework for students who want to earn an associate degree and for others who are looking for landscape seminars and for the professional interested in gaining additional expertise in specialized areas of floriculture. The program covers topics from interior landscaping and flowering plants to designing ornamental gardens and wedding floral design. All of our courses are taught by faculty, professionals who pride themselves in sound coursework and take genuine interest in your studies and your career plans.

Horticulturists are employed by florists, greenhouses and garden centers, nurseries, retail sales outlets, landscape contractors, design and construction firms and lawn care companies. Average starting salary for horticulturists is $7 to $10 per hour plus benefits and sales commissions.

Courses for the Horticulture Associate in Applied Science Degree are offered throughout the year. Many are offered evenings as well as days to accommodate your schedule. Spring semester begins in January, summer semester begins in June and fall classes begin in August.

We want you in our classroom next semester. If you need direction on how to begin at LCC, let us know what's on your mind and what you need from LCC to get started. We've got a place waiting for in our classroom that can lead you to a great career start.
